Demo 4: Can Crush

This video accompanies the lesson on pressure.

Questions to consider:
1. Before I put water in the can, is the can empty?
2. What effect did the heating process have on the can's contents? (Hint: Think pressure)
3. What crushed the can?

  1. 1.Before you put the water in the can the can was mostly empty, but its impossible too get all of the liquid out, so there was probably some Yoo-hoo still left in there.
2.The can was heated and the pressure was going down within the can.
3.Once the can was flipped upside down, the pressure in the can was increased, quickly I might add and this caused the can too become crushed. Its much in the same way that when divers go underwater they are told too come up slowly, because the increase in pressure will crush their organs and bones together.

    1. Rethink what is happening to pressure during both parts of this demo. What substance is crushing the can?
